The Samata is a luxury retreat located in the Sanur area. I was lucky enough to spend some time in one of the spa suites, click below to read my review.
Sanur is located on the southeast side of Bali, about a 25minute drive from the airport. I’ve never been to this area before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was met with a much quieter version of Kuta, with a chilled out vibe I knew this was going to be somewhere I enjoyed. The Samata is located a little out of town making it feel like a real escape. There is a complimentary shuttle guests can use which takes you to Sanurs town centre.
Welcomed by Leni the head butler who helped us with our check in and showed us around the retreat. When you walk into reception you can see two of the three pools available for everyone to use (some rooms come with private pools). The pools are some of the most amazing I’ve ever seen, long infinity pools with a backdrop of the beautiful Balinese rice fields.
Our room was huge, we were greeted with a minibar full of complimentary soft drinks and cookies (yes cookies). It even had our own massage beds in the bathroom so we could have private treatments. With a balcony over looking the third pool it was hard to pick where to swim first.
We headed to the retreats restaurant Zenso to grab some lunch. I picked from the comfort menu and Brooke chose from the healthy options menu. The food was super yum, we even ended up getting room service deleivered from them for our dinner that night. Breakfasts is also served at Zenso (or you can get room service) boasting a huge variety of dishes, we ended up picking a different selection each day 🙂
The following morning we woke up at 5:45am (the struggle was real) for our sunrise walk as recommended by lifestyle retreats. We met a staff member who walked us to the beach whilst pointing out some local landmarks. Upon arriving at the beach we were provided with a drink whilst we watched the sunrise. It was nice to see Bali at such a different time of day, I’ve seen plenty of sunsets here but watching the sunrise was a nice change.
The spa offers a 2 for 1 happy hour before midday, so we figured it would be rude not to :p We had two therapists come to our room and we both enjoyed an awesome one hour massage. If you plan on staying here make sure you book in for at least one 🙂
The retreat is very much focused on a healthy lifestyle. With one of the biggest gyms I have even seen in holiday accomodation, you won’t have to miss any workouts. There are plenty of options with a tonne of machines, a yoga room, tennis court and even a boxing ring. There is also an option to pay for some personal training sessions for that
The Samata is the perfect place if you’re after a relaxing and peaceful break. The retreat is spread over massive grounds, and given the choice of 3 pools plus the private villa pools you never feel like you are surrounded by other travelers. The staff always called us by name, and were beyond accommodating, it was always a pleasure to have a chat with them.
